CBI Arrests TMC Leader Ashis Pandey in RG Kar case, Close Associate of Sandeep Ghosh

In a significant development in the ongoing investigation into financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Ashis Pandey, a close associate of TMC youth leader Sandeep Ghosh. The arrest was made on grounds related to a financial fraud case involving the hospital, as reported by CBI sources.

The CBI had previously interrogated Pandey at its office, where he was questioned regarding his alleged connections to the financial misappropriations at the hospital. According to reports, Pandey was found to be staying at a guesthouse in Salt Lake on August 9, the same day a young female doctor’s body was discovered in the hospital’s emergency department seminar hall. The authorities suspect that he might be involved in the broader scandal surrounding the circumstances of the doctor’s death.

The investigation was initially prompted by the tragic incident on August 9, when the lifeless body of the young doctor was retrieved under disturbing circumstances, raising allegations of rape and murder. The case was subsequently handed over to the CBI under the directive of the Calcutta High Court, which also led to the detention of the arrested civic volunteer for further questioning. A polygraph test was conducted on the accused with the court’s permission to ascertain the veracity of their statements.

In connection with the ongoing investigation, the CBI has previously apprehended several individuals, including the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, Sandeep Ghosh, and the former officer-in-charge of Tala police station, Abhijit Mondal, over allegations of evidence tampering related to the case. Ghosh was earlier detained for his involvement in financial irregularities concerning the medical college.
