Howrah, May 5: A son of Bengal has gone missing while defending the nation. BSF jawan Purnam Kumar Sau has been untraceable for the past 13 days after he allegedly inadvertently crossed into Pakistani territory during intensified patrolling along the border, following the deadly Pahalgam terrorist attack.


👩‍🍼 Pregnant Wife in Trauma, Family Kept in the Dark

Purnam’s pregnant wife and family visited Pathankot, where he was posted, in desperate search of any clue about his whereabouts. They returned empty-handed. BSF officials have assured them that efforts are being made to bring him back, but the lack of any solid update has left them anxious. No official statement has yet been issued by the Ministry of External Affairs.

🗣️ CM Mamata Stands by the Family, Demands Jawan’s Return

On Monday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, while en route to Behrampore, addressed the issue from Dumurjala in Howrah:

“It’s a very tragic incident. Our jawan, Sau, is missing. Our MP Kalyan Banerjee is in constant touch with the family. Purnam must be brought back.

She added that her government will fully support any steps the Centre takes in matters of national security.


🛑 Missing in the Aftermath of Pahalgam Attack

The incident follows the April 22 terrorist attack in the Baisaran Valley of Pahalgam, where 26 Hindu tourists were deliberately targeted and killed. Investigations revealed that Pakistan-backed Lashkar-e-Taiba and ISI were involved. In response, India has significantly increased border security.

🤐 Centre Silent So Far, Raising Concerns

Despite the gravity of the situation, the Ministry of External Affairs has remained silent, and no details have been released about what steps the Indian government is taking to retrieve the jawan.
