Junior Doctors Slam BJP for Supporting Rapists; Shift Venue for September 27 Convention

Kolkata: Junior doctors from R.G. Kar Medical College strongly criticized the BJP during a press conference, accusing the party of exploiting their protest movement for political gains. The doctors, who have been leading a large-scale protest, made it clear that they would not allow their movement to be used for any political agenda, especially by those who have previously shown support for rapists in incidents like Hathras, Kathua, and Unnao.

The junior doctors declared, “Those who garlanded rapists in Hathras, Kathua, and Unnao, if they think they can use this protest to seize power, the public will not allow it.” Their statement was a direct response to recent remarks made by BJP leaders like Dilip Ghosh and Ashok Dinda, who had accused the protesting doctors of selfish motives.

The ongoing protest, initially confined to R.G. Kar Medical College, has now turned into what the junior doctors described as a “mass civil movement.” They expressed gratitude for the support of the people of Bengal, crediting public involvement for the movement’s progress. The doctors also called for swift resolution of the R.G. Kar case in the Supreme Court.

During the press conference, they announced a change in the venue for the upcoming mass convention on September 27. Initially scheduled to be held at Dhanadhanya Auditorium, the event will now take place at SSKM Hospital’s auditorium. The venue change followed the sudden cancellation of prior permission granted by Mayor Firhad Hakim for the Dhanadhanya Auditorium, for reasons still unclear.

The protesting doctors reiterated their commitment to keeping the movement free from divisive politics, asserting that they had rejected any such interference from the very beginning and would continue to do so.
