India and Pakistan Agree to Immediate Full Ceasefire, Announces Donald Trump
After overnight talks mediated by the US, both nations step back from the brink of war—Trump hails leadership of Modi and Sharif

In a major diplomatic breakthrough, India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate and full ceasefire, according to a statement made by former U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday. Posting on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump wrote,

“After overnight (U.S. time) negotiations under American mediation, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate full ceasefire.”

Trump Praises Leadership of Both Nations

Trump didn’t stop there. He extended congratulations to the political leadership of both India and Pakistan, saying,

“Congratulations to both nations for exercising realism and extraordinary wisdom. Thank you for your attention to this issue!”

His statement signals a significant de-escalation of the high tension that had developed between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.

Pakistan Confirms Consensus

Echoing Trump’s announcement, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar also confirmed that both New Delhi and Islamabad had reached a mutual agreement on ceasefire. While tensions had escalated in recent days, diplomatic efforts behind the scenes seem to have paid off.

U.S. Diplomacy Behind the Scenes

In a separate statement on X (formerly Twitter), U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio wrote that he and Vice President Vance had been in constant contact with top Indian and Pakistani leaders over the past 48 hours.
According to Rubio, they spoke with:

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif

Rubio emphasized that the U.S. mediation was instrumental in securing the ceasefire agreement.

From War to Diplomacy

With both nations now stepping back from open conflict, this ceasefire marks not only a pause in hostilities but also a shift toward diplomatic engagement. Experts say this may open the door to more sustained peace talks if both sides maintain restraint and focus on resolving deeper issues through dialogue.
