In the politically sensitive region of Murshidabad, West Bengal, violence has once again claimed innocent lives. In Jafrabad, Dhulian, two committed CPI(M) workers, Hargobind Das and Chandan Das, were brutally murdered in what party leaders describe as a “planned political attack.”
While the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the main opposition party, BJP, have been conspicuously absent, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] has shown strong solidarity with the affected families.
CPI(M) State Secretary Mohammad Salim, along with senior leaders Jamir Molla, Meenakshi Mukherjee, Dhrubajyoti Saha, and other local leaders, visited the families of the slain comrades. Their presence offered not only emotional support but also a strong political message: “CPI(M) stands with the oppressed and will continue the fight for justice.”

Salim condemned the killings and accused the ruling party of orchestrating an environment of fear and suppression. “When political dissent is silenced with bullets, it is not just democracy that is under attack, but the very foundation of civil society,” he said.
He further criticized the absence of any action or support from the administration and opposition parties. “Where is the Chief Minister? Where is the Leader of the Opposition? The people of Dhulian and Suti are suffering, and those in power have turned their backs,” Salim added.
CPI(M) leaders have pledged to continue their movement across West Bengal demanding justice, protection for political workers, and restoration of law and order in Murshidabad and beyond.
Locals in Dhulian and Suti echoed the leaders’ sentiments, expressing frustration at being left unprotected in an increasingly violent political landscape.
The visit marks a significant political moment, highlighting CPI(M)’s growing outreach in areas neglected by mainstream political forces.
