CBI Summons Panihati MLA Nirmal Ghosh in Connection with Rape-Murder Case at RG Kar Hospital

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned Panihati Trinamool Congress MLA Nirmal Ghosh for questioning in connection with the rape and murder of a female doctor at RG Kar Hospital, Kolkata. The incident, which occurred on August 9, 2024, has drawn significant attention, with several high-profile arrests already made.

The doctor’s body was discovered in the seminar hall on the hospital’s fourth floor. On the day of the tragic event, Nirmal Ghosh visited the hospital, as the victim belonged to his constituency. He was present with the victim’s family and addressed the media, calling for swift justice and urging authorities to apprehend the true perpetrator of the heinous crime.

The CBI, following court orders, has taken over the investigation and has questioned multiple individuals related to the case. These include doctors, police officers, and other hospital staff. Nirmal Ghosh was summoned to the CGO Complex for questioning. In response to media inquiries, the MLA stated, “This incident happened in my constituency. I had some documents to submit, which is why I am here.”

Earlier, Nirmal Ghosh had expressed his deep concern regarding the brutal murder, stating, “Our primary objective is to catch the main criminal. Police and administrative officials are working together to ensure justice.” He further emphasized that all actions related to the investigation were being conducted transparently, in front of media cameras.

The CBI continues its probe, recording statements from various individuals connected to the case. Among those summoned for questioning are medical professionals who performed the postmortem, including Dr. Apurba Biswas, and other prominent figures involved in the incident.

As the investigation unfolds, the CBI’s focus remains on bringing those responsible for the crime to justice.
