After multiple delays, the Supreme Court finally heard the RG Kar case on Wednesday. During the hearing, Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna advised the parents of the deceased doctor to submit a fresh petition. He stated, “It will be better for you. Withdraw this and file a new petition. All allegations and statements must be presented in the form of an affidavit.”
Key Observations by the Chief Justice: The Chief Justice further questioned, “The case is still under trial in the Kolkata High Court. Should we close it here? You don’t need to answer now; inform us later.” This remark came in response to the victim’s family’s legal counsel, who asserted that they had filed a petition before the sentencing of Sanjay Roy.
CBI’s Stand on the Investigation: The victim’s parents also raised concerns regarding the CBI investigation. Addressing these concerns, the CBI’s legal representative stated, “We have answers to all the questions raised in the petition. However, discussing them at this stage could benefit the accused.”
Legal Proceedings and Future Course: The victim’s family’s lawyer clarified that they had submitted their plea before the Sealdah court sentenced Sanjay Roy to life imprisonment. Following this, the Chief Justice directed them to submit their allegations in the form of an affidavit, ensuring legal clarity.
Importance of the RG Kar Case: The RG Kar case has garnered significant attention, as it raises crucial questions about legal proceedings, judicial delays, and the role of investigative agencies. The Supreme Court’s latest directive marks a new phase in this ongoing legal battle.
