Trump Surges Ahead in U.S. Presidential Election: Kamala Harris Faces Uphill Battle

The U.S. presidential election vote count is underway, with a tough competition between Republican candidate Donald Trump and Democrat Kamala Harris. As the counting progresses, Trump is pulling ahead, contrary to earlier exit polls. However, political analysts believe that the race could shift at any moment, especially with the critical swing states yet to report their results.

The ongoing U.S. presidential election has captivated global attention, as its outcome could influence not only American politics but also international relations. According to The New York Times, as of Wednesday morning (IST), Trump is leading in 15 states, including Republican strongholds like Florida and Texas, while Kamala Harris holds states such as New York and Illinois. In the current tally, Republicans are leading with 230 seats, while Democrats have secured 192.

Initial exit polls had shown Democrat Kamala Harris with a slight advantage. According to NBC’s polling, Harris was expected to receive 48% of the vote, compared to Trump’s 44%. Key issues influencing voters included democracy, the economy, abortion, immigration, and foreign policy.

However, results from seven crucial swing states, known as “battleground states,” are yet to be declared. Experts highlight that states like Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, Georgia, Arizona, North Carolina, and Nevada could be decisive in determining the final outcome. Due to the “winner-takes-all” rule in these states, even a narrow victory could significantly impact the overall result.

These battleground states, often unpredictable in their political alignment, could sway the election in favor of either candidate. While most states have concluded their voting process, the outcome from these seven pivotal states is still awaited.
