RG Kar: Senior Doctors to Join Strike, Heightening Concerns for Patients
In a significant move, senior doctors and professors at NRS Medical College will participate in a one-hour strike on Friday from 9 AM to 10 AM. This action is intended to express solidarity with junior doctors currently engaged in a protest demanding justice for recent incidents of violence against female doctors in the state.
The strike comes as a response to a series of disturbing events, including the assault and murder of women healthcare professionals in various medical colleges. The junior doctors are calling for stringent measures to ensure the safety of medical staff and a thorough investigation into these crimes.
The symbolic strike proposal was approved during a council meeting of doctors and medical students at NRS on Thursday. Junior doctor Pulastya Acharya stated, “Our movement is ongoing. We have received unwavering support from senior doctors. This one-hour strike aims to strengthen our demand for justice.”
The participation of senior doctors is expected to reinvigorate the ongoing protest; however, they are cautious about a full strike. During Thursday’s meeting, senior doctors suggested alternative strategies that would still draw attention to the issues while minimizing disruption to patients.
Several senior doctors at NRS expressed their commitment to the cause but voiced concerns about the implications of a complete strike on the public. They urged junior doctors to consider alternative methods of protest that would not adversely affect patient care.
