South Bengal to Experience Warmer Nights as North Bengal Faces Scattered Rain

Bengal’s weather pattern is set to change mid-December, with the Alipore Meteorological Department predicting a rise in temperatures across the state. Over the next few days, the mercury is likely to increase by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius. Southern districts are expected to remain dry, with no forecast of rain or dense fog, while northern districts may see light rainfall in specific areas.

Weather Trends Across South and North Bengal

On Sunday, cold wave warnings were issued for three districts in South Bengal, but these alerts have now been withdrawn. Starting Monday, night temperatures in South Bengal could rise by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius, and North Bengal could see an increase of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius.

For the next 24 hours, no major changes in minimum temperatures are expected, but a gradual rise is predicted over the subsequent three to four days. In South Bengal, the weather will stay dry, while Darjeeling and Kalimpong in North Bengal might experience light showers over the weekend. Morning fog may appear in some districts, but dense fog alerts have not been issued.

Cyclonic Circulation Impacts Temperature

The rise in temperature can be attributed to a cyclonic circulation over the southeastern Bay of Bengal and adjacent South Andaman Sea, which is developing into a low-pressure system. The system is moving toward the Tamil Nadu coast, indirectly affecting Bengal’s weather.

Weather Outlook for the Week

Southern Bengal will witness warmer nights as minimum temperatures gradually rise. Dry weather is expected to persist, making mornings pleasant but slightly warmer than usual for December. In North Bengal, light rainfall might occur in Darjeeling and Kalimpong over the weekend. The indirect impact of the low-pressure system may lead to occasional changes in wind patterns, further influencing temperatures across the state.
