CBI Returns Empty-Handed Again as ‘Kalighat’s Kaku’ Remains Unwell, No Voice Sample Collected

Sujay Krishna Bhadra’s Health Issues Delay CBI Investigation: Sujay Krishna Bhadra, widely known as ‘Kalighat’s Kaku,’ remains unwell, preventing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from collecting his voice sample. Despite being scheduled for a court appearance on Wednesday, he was absent due to health issues. The Presidency Jail authorities submitted his medical report, stating that he is currently admitted to the jail hospital and cannot be physically produced in court.

Repeated Postponements in Court Appearances: Bhadra was previously admitted to a private hospital due to deteriorating health. He was discharged on January 20 and returned to jail, but he has yet to recover fully. His court hearing was initially scheduled for January 21, but he was unable to attend. The next date was set for Wednesday, but once again, he did not appear, forcing CBI to return empty-handed.

Possible Angiography and Stent Implantation: Doctors at the private hospital had suggested that if Bhadra’s condition worsened, he might require an angiography and even a stent implantation. However, the jail authorities have yet to clarify whether his condition has reached that stage. His medical condition remains the primary reason behind his absence from court.

CBI’s Urgency to Collect Voice Samples: Bhadra has been in jail for a long time due to his involvement in the West Bengal recruitment scam. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had previously collected his voice sample, and now, the CBI also seeks to obtain it. To do so, he must be physically present in court, but his health complications have obstructed the process.

CBI’s Efforts to Secure Custody: Although Bhadra was granted bail by the Calcutta High Court in the ED’s recruitment scam case, the CBI moved the court to secure a ‘show arrest’—a legal process where a previously arrested individual is re-arrested. The primary objective behind this move was to collect his voice sample, but due to his deteriorating health, the process remains incomplete.

What’s Next? The CBI now waits for an improvement in Bhadra’s health so that he can be presented in court for voice sample collection. However, the continuous postponements are causing delays in the investigation of the recruitment scam case. With legal complexities and medical concerns intertwined, the case is becoming increasingly challenging for the authorities.
